Weather conditions in Borneo:

  1. Borneo is hot and humid round the year, so no need to keep very warm clothes, just keep light weight clothes.
  2. But in rainy season, rain gear is always good to have and in case of cooler temperatures (at Mt Kinabalu), light jackets should be kept.
  3. The rainy season is not very heavy and no thunderstorm for the whole day.

Visa, Passport and tickets:

  1. Most visitors don’t need a visa to Malaysia (including Sabah, Sarawak on Borneo Island).
  2. You must take your tickets, visa and passport on the day of travel.
  3. If you lose your visa or passport, you should immediately contact the embassy.
  4. Visas are not issued on airport.

Packing:

  1. Check the weather situation of that country you are traveling to, before you go there.
  2. Wear loose and light summer clothing including half pants and T-shirts etc when you are going outside as you might be sweating.
  3. To avoid hurry and rushing, pack your baggage one day before going.
  4. Don’t fold, rather roll the clothes.
  5. Take travel size packing of the things you bring with you.

Safety and security:

  1. For fans of natural beauty, please go with your cameras. But these expensive things like camera, jewellery, watches and cash should be kept with care.
  2. It is good to have your valuables with you like luggage, travel documents with full attention.
  3. Put a strap for security around your luggage.
  4. Don’t accept anything on behalf of anyone in any case

Money Matters:

  1. The currency used in Borneo is the Malaysian ringett – MYR.
  2. You must have a variety to get your money outside the country like cash, credit cards, travelers' cheques, debit cards or cash cards and their details.
  3. You can convert your money from local banks or money changers there.
  4. You must have some additional currency of Borneo with you in advance because your flight timings might be unusual


Health:

  1. Vaccinations and inoculations should be taken before you go according to the Borneo’s environment especially consider Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B shots.
  2. Keep all the medicines with you which you need with your consultant reports.
  3. Always keep some extra medicines with you in case you get late abroad.
  4. Immunizations and inoculations should be taken in advance according to the destination country’s atmosphere.
  5. You should keep lots of sunscreen and a bottle of insect repellant containing DEET with you.

Language:

  1. Here national language is Bahasa Malayu (Malay).
  2. But English (especially in tourism spots), Tamil, Chinese and Thai are also spoken there.
  3. Cultural groups speak a variety of languages and dialects.

On board:

  1. Drink plenty of water at the time on the aircraft as this helps to keep you safe from dehydration.
  2. Check in flight journal to avoid boredom and tiredness.
  3. Don’t eat too much on board for easy digestion.

On Airport:

  1. Try to leave time before for checking in at the airport.
  2. Always reconfirm your flights before setting out for the airport.
  3. Check schedule for public transport in advance.
  4. Wherever possible use only metered taxis around the airport.
